For a new upcoming artist/film composer in the industry how difficult can it be to get a gig if it were up to the amount of time the artist has been doing this? As a new artist/film composer I feel that it is helpful to have previous references when applying for a job such as film composing but that being new into the industry that a director may be interested in hiring them.

Even though the new artist/film composer would not know much about how to properly produce the movie for the film/TV/jingle there would definitely be education before being hired. Taking classes such as music theory and music composition is reassuring to the directors that these individuals are qualified enough to be hired. This is beneficial for the directors because even though the composer does not know what they’re doing they are still capable of scoring and have a real understanding of drama. Directors also can have the composer share opinion on what kind and where the music will fit in appropriately. (http://www.nickdolanmusic.com/blog/10-ways-to-make-money-as-a-film-composer)

The concept of hiring a film composer who has been around for a certain amount of time seems ideal but with more upcoming artists/film composers appearing in the industry with no certain tendencies of how to accomplish their work might just be what producers are looking for.
